If I post a creative work on StarSisters, do I give up my copyright?
No, posting a creative work on the StarSisters online community does not result in a loss of copyright.
Can I post someone else’s work on StarSisters, like a painting I love?
No. Work posted on StarSisters must be the kid’s original work. If a post refers to the work of another person, it needs to be properly attributed with the copyright holder’s name. Sharing art that you love or that inspires you is a great thing, but we need to give credit where credit is due.
If I’m concerned about something on the online community, who do I contact?
If something on the online community is worrying you in any way, we want to know! Please have your parents email us at Starsistersupdates@gmail.com, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
If I’m confused about how to do something on the site, where can I get help?
Check out our New Members Guide! You can also post your question in the forums to get help from other kids.
If you’re still confused about something on the site, ask your parents to email StarSistersupdates@gmail.com. We’re always happy to help.
What is personally identifiable information, and why can’t I share it?
Personally identifiable information, or PII, is anything that could allow another person to know who you are and how to find you. This includes things like last name, exact birthday, city of residence as well as specific locations like schools, camps or clubs. This information cannot be shared on StarSisters because the website complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (or COPPA) which is designed to protect online privacy of children on the internet. The COPPA regulations are non-negotiable and must be followed.
What responsibilities do parents/guardians of participants have?
Parent involvement is key to making StarSisters a warm and safe community.
Parents/guardians are expected to read and discuss the StarSisters community guidelines with your child, and monitor your child’s activities in the online community. StarSisters volunteers will also contact the parent/guardian if there is any concern regarding a child’s online participation; please make sure to regularly check the parent email attached to your account.
What happens when a StarSister turns 15? Are there ways that they can volunteer on the site?
StarSisters is designed to be a space for kids from ages 8–14, but when a participant ages out, there are opportunities for them to stay involved. StarSisters Teen Volunteers transition into a supporting role, with different expectations and responsibilities, but also with the chance to give advice and mentor younger kids on the site. If your child is interested in becoming a volunteer, click here for more information!
Can I post links to outside websites on a StarSisters message board?
No. In order to ensure the safety of all participants, and because we can not moderate content outside of StarSisters, posting links to other websites is not allowed.
Who runs StarSisters? Are you a big corporation?
StarSisters is run by a small volunteer group of parents, college students, and teenagers who took part in an online girls community when they were younger. They now want to share that type of experience with a new generation of kids.
